The first time I met Charlie Pendleton, he whizzed by my car on roller skates down Hewes Point Road. He’d been a champion competitor in the roller derby in his younger days, and a croupier in Las Vegas casinos. He returned to Islesboro to fix up a cabin built right on the water, and kept an eye on his 90-year-old mother who lived nearby. He played keyboard for the island band and led the party-goers every Saturday night. |
