Mel Lee was the ferry boat captain for most of the years we were on Islesboro. Driving six hours up from Connecticut, as soon as we’d parked our car on deck, we’d head upstairs to the pilot house for a visit with Mel and his bulldog Amy. During the 20-minute ride to the island, we’d have learned all the news of the island since the previous summer. |
