The kitchen at the Aldrich house had a long table with 6 or 8 ladderback chairs, where we gathered every morning for oatmeal and raspberry muffins.The berries were culled from the bush outside the kitchen door by the first person up, who also prepared coffee on the old wood stove. The ladderback chairs were a nuisance of crashings, falling over backward everytime someone laid a jacket or flannel shirt across the back. |
