Leaning heavily against the back rim of a wicker chair, Mr. Boardman keeps a critical eye on things, even in the midst of festivities. As First Selectman, he’s watched over island affairs for thirty years. And it’s hard to let his guard down, even on this special day. His porkpie hat keeps the sun out of his eyes, but he squints from habit nonetheless. Someone, maybe his new daughter-in-law, has placed a sprig of flowers in his boutonnière, making his whole demeanor add up to Summer Island Wedding. |
